We are delighted to announce that Sara Turnbull and John Lelliott have joined the Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) Board.
Pam Alexander, Chair of CGMA, welcomes Sara Turnbull and John Lelliott.
"I am delighted to welcome Sara and John to the CGMA Board. Sara brings a wealth of experience in delivering sustainable community regeneration through property and enterprise, and particularly in facilitating the growth of small and growing businesses. John's deep understanding of the commercial real estate sector in London and his experience in driving sustainable financial performance will be invaluable to the Board."
Sara Turnbull is Chief Executive of Bootstrap Company and a freelance consultant on sustainability and business. She has co-chaired the Mayor of London and London Enterprise Partnership panel on Open Workspace. Bootstrap is a charitable social enterprise based in London that alleviates poverty by providing access to affordable workspace, enterprise support and training, and cultural activities.
John Lelliott is retiring this month as Chief Financial Officer for UK real estate business, The Crown Estate, which manages a £12bn portfolio that includes central London; retail and leisure assets across the UK; rural and strategic land; as well as offshore wind in its capacity as manager of the UK seabed. He is Chairman of the Natural Capital Coalition as well as a Non-Executive member of The Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital Foundation Trust and Chair of the Finance Committee. He is Vice-Chair and Trustee of Asthma UK.
Pam continues, "As we move on to the exciting delivery of our new wholesale market for fruit, vegetables and flowers at Nine Elms on the Southbank, John and Sara will contribute to the Board’s keen understanding of the challenges our 200 traders face and our passion to ensure that the renewed wholesale market and its adjacent Food Quarter will become an even more vital asset to its community and to London’s growing hospitality industry."
Sara and John took up their appointments on 21st September for three and four year terms respectively. John will Chair the Audit and Risk Committee and Sara will join this Committee. This news follows the appointment of Sir Edward Lister to the CGMA Board in June and the reappointments this year of Pam Alexander, Bill Edgerley, Archie Robertson, Teresa Wickham and Nigel Jenney.
Sara and John replace two long serving Board members, Helen Gordon and Glyn Smith, who are each standing down after 9 years' service.
Defra Minister, Lord Gardiner of Kimble, said:
"I am grateful to Helen Gordon and Glyn Smith for their contributions to New Covent Garden Market. They both helped guide CGMA through the critical procurement and appointment phases of the Market’s redevelopment. I am also pleased that Sara Turnbull and John Lelliott are joining such a strong team which will lead the Market through the next exciting yet challenging times."
Pam Alexander added:
"Since their appointments in 2007, Helen and Glyn have each made very significant contributions to shaping CGMA’s plans to redevelop New Covent Garden Market and to securing its future here at Nine Elms. Helen's considerable expertise in property and Glyn's astute financial insights have been invaluable in overcoming the many challenges of the redevelopment plans and in setting us on a firm course for the future. The Board and staff of CGMA join me in thanking them both most sincerely for their commitment, wisdom and substantial contributions over the last nine years. We will miss them greatly but look forward to inviting them both back to the opening of the new market."
The appointments have been made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
