Wonderful colours on the Market this month.
Citrus from Europe is now full season. Leafy clementines are already eating well. Other lines include bergamot, cedro, kumquats (pictured below) and more unusual species such as yuzu and Buddha's Hand.

The main UK apple varieties are Cox, Braeburn, Bramley and russets. UK pears are Conference, moving into Comice.
Other fruits on good form include imported pomegranates - a blast of scarlet red for the colder months.

Other fruit highlights include quince, sharon fruit (a.k.a. persimmons / Kaki fruit) and late season red-fleshed plums. You will find forced rhubarb but it is Dutch right now - Yorkshire yet to start.

There are festive classics on the Market, such as these spiky chestnuts, walnuts and cranberries.

For veg, Brussel sprouts and tops have started and will improve as the temperatures drop. Other brassicas include purple sprouting, January King cabbage and kalettes.

Look at these gorgeous coloured cauliflowers and Romanesco.

It's an excellent month for roots, such as Jerusalem artichokes (pictured below), radish, beetroots, bunched carrots, Chantenay carrots and parsnips.

Here is some top quality leafy celeriac.

Squashes are dazzling - countless varieties available.

Bitter leaves are here from Italy. The photo below shows Castelfranco. Other radicchios include Tardivo and pink. Also Cime di Rapa.

This is a photo of puntarelle - a fantastic vegetables from Italy. You peel off the outer leaves to reveal the inner buds.

At this time of year, the supply of salad crops moves from Northern Europe to Spain.
Wild mushrooms include Ceps, Trompette and Chanterelle.
