Accessibility statement

Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.newcoventgardenmarket.com – the website for New Covent Garden Market, a fruit, vegetable and flower wholesale market in south London.

This website is run by Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA), the organisation that manages the market. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. Therefore, CGMA is committed to making it accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This commitment includes accessibility to those with:

  • impaired vision
  • motor difficulties
  • cognitive impairments or learning disabilities
  • deafness or impaired hearing.

We’ve made the website text as simple as possible to understand. As a public sector body, however, we have had our site assessed for its accessibility and in its current format we have been made aware that some parts of the website do not fully meet existing guidelines. For example:

  • The ‘subscribe’ button in the footer cannot be accessed using just a keyboard
  • At 200%, some content or functionality can be lost occasionally
  • The site contains a small number of moving, flashing or scrolling parts that can cause problems for assistive technologies like screen readers.
  • There is no visible focus on the search button in the menu.
  • Some links are not visible or descriptive enough.
  • When the user does not expand ‘more’ from the menu, the tab focus still goes to the menu options, but they do not receive a visible focus.
  • On the home page, visible keyboard focus is lost around the image carousel.
  • In the wholesalers’ directory, there is no visible keyboard focus on the filter checkboxes.
  • Some of the colour combinations used across the site are unhelpful to some people with visual impairments.
  • Some search input does not have accessible text.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the website being under review. CGMA is undertaking a thorough review of the site to bring it into line with the latest guidelines. This process will take a few months and once it is completed, we will update this statement.

In the meantime, we’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website and every other resource we use to communicate with our community and beyond. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, please contact Tommy Leighton in the Communications department via hello@cgma.co.uk
