Further education students visit Flower Market for inspiration

2 Mar, 2026

A group of budding floristry trainees visited New Covent Garden Market on a busy Friday morning, to learn more about the horticulture trade and see flower wholesalers in action.

Led by professional florist and college tutor Lynne Robinson, the members of the group are currently further education students at Adult Learning Lewisham, exploring the ins and outs of a career in the flower trade. “We had a wonderful morning, full of surprises as none of the students had visited New Covent Garden Market before,” says Lynne. “Perfect for beginners or those with experience, the courses cover essential industry knowledge for personal or professional use.”

Starting with a tour of the Market, the two-part Floristry Business Skills course explains how you would visit Nine Elms as a freelance florist, highlighting the range and extent of available materials. This is followed by a second, classroom-based, session exploring online wholesale purchasing and deliveries.

“If you love flowers and want to explore your creativity, our short courses offer diverse skills, techniques, and sustainable design styles,” adds Lynne. “We also offer a free taster course in Beginners Floristry for anyone who is unsure or just wants to find out more.”

For more information on the available courses, visit the Adult Learning Lewisham website here.
