The UK asparagus season shifts into gear this month. You will find green, white, purple and wild asparagus on Buyers' Walk.

Other UK highlights include wild garlic, which is abundant now. Outdoor rhubarb is also looking good.

Local purple sprouting broccoli is also recommended.

Jersey Royal potatoes are here - mids, ware and pearls.

Other UK lines include cabbages, spring greens and cauliflowers.

From southern Europe, you will find peas and broad beans. The UK crop will follow on later.

April is a good month for artichokes from Italy, Spain and France.

How about these beautiful Italian 'horn' peppers?

The European citrus season has wound down, but you will still find Tarocco blood oranges, leafy oranges and Amalfi lemons.

These are a new one for me - sweet snacking lemons grown in Italy.

Other fruits include Gariguette strawberries, loquats and mangoes. How about these spectacular white strawberries?

There are some gorgeous potted herb plants available from the herb wholesalers.

This is top-quality Italian basil - direct from Liguria.

For mushrooms, April brings St George mushrooms - which will star alongside foraged Morels from Europe.
