This is the most exciting month on Buyers' Walk - as a flurry of new ingredients make a show.

The quality of cherries is excellent this year. The UK crop is just beginning at time of writing.

Other stone fruit includes peaches and nectarines - white, yellow and red-fleshed. Apricots are also eating well now.

All varieties of melons are also in season - can you name the varieties below?

For berries, English strawberries are underway. But yet to spot any gooseberries - not long now.

Raspberries, redcurrants and blueberries also available. This photo below shows a rare sight - mulberries. These are seldom sold commercially because the berries are so fragile.

UK rhubarb is all the outdoor crop now - so less neon pink in colour.

The UK asparagus season may wind up early this month. Growers across Britain have been struggling with various crops due to low rainfall. The photo below shows wild asparagus - a reminder of what the plant looked like before the plant breeders set to work.

Potatoes are another thirsty crop that has suffered.  Jersey Royals are still available and new crops spuds from warmer parts of Britain such as Cornwall.

UK salads and herbs are in season, plus some brassicas such as spring greens.

This is beautiful new season garlic from Italy.

And the garlic scapes - the flowering shoots of the plant.

A big trend this year is for premium Japanese ingredients - such as Shine Muscat grapes, winter strawberries, dried persimmon or Crown Melons. If you are on Buyers' Walk, check out the selection at All Greens who import a wide range as they sell some via their retail shops.

For wild mushrooms, the warmer months tend to dry up supplies and Morels will be less abundant this month. A top foraged ingredient are fig leaves.
