Members of Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce will tour New Covent Garden Market in the early hours of Thursday next week (24/9), to experience a side of London that many people never get to see.

Led by Covent Garden Market Authority’s General Manager Robert McAuliffe and Communication Director Giles Roddy, the Chamber of Commerce members will meet traders in the Fruit and Vegetable Market, as well as seeing the Market’s redevelopment in progress. The two-hour tour will end with a visit to the Flower Market to meet traders and enjoy a hot drink in the Garden Café.

One of the tour’s many highlights will be a visit to the Fruit and Vegetable Market’s Buyers’ Walk (above), the 205-metre-long trading aisle where wholesalers display fresh produce from across the UK and around the world.

As an independent membership organisation separate from Wandsworth Council, the Chamber of Commerce is chaired by Chief Executive Officer Beverley Corson and includes a broad membership made up of local businesses of all sizes, from across the London Borough of Wandsworth.

In her invite to Chamber of Commerce members, Beverley captures the excitement of the behind-the-scenes tour: “It’s a rare opportunity to see the extraordinary supply chain operating behind the restaurants, hotels, cafés, florists and businesses we encounter every day,” she says.
