Plenty to celebrate this month on the Market. It's the start of a new era for several wholesalers who have moved to their new units and Buyer's Walk.
July also brings an abundance of choice for summer produce. It's a great month for English peas and beans such as broad beans, Coco beans and yellow beans. UK runner beans start this month.
Stone fruit includes English cherries, peaches (white, yellow, blood), nectarines, plums and apricots.
Here's a crop of flat or 'donut' peaches from Spain.
Apricots are at their best and well-priced.
July is a fine month for melons of all kinds, including Charentais and water melons. Green and black figs are available - typically from Spain and Italy. Berries are at their best and strawberry growers are getting ready for Wimbledon.
UK gooseberries are here with blackcurrants later this month.
For other homegrown crops, it's prime time for UK salads. For brassicas, there is broccoli, curly kale, cauliflower and purple sprouting broccoli is back in season. Jersey Royal potatoes are still available. UK outdoor rhubarb is a good call.
Growers of tomatoes in Britain will be glad of the recent blast of sunshine.
Other summer produce includes corn on the cob and summer squashes such as patty pans and courgettes.
For mushrooms, this is the month for foraged Scottish girolle - a classy choice.
See you in August for our next Market Report.
