Battersea MP congratulates Market on 50 years in Nine Elms

9 Apr, 2025

Marsha de Cordova, the Member of Parliament for Battersea, wrote a letter of congratulations to the Covent Garden Tenants Association, to recognise 50 years of service to her constituency.

Addressing the letter to Gary [Marshall] and everyone at [New] Covent Garden Market, the Labour MP said:

“I am writing to congratulate you on your historic achievement of 50 years of service as a wholesale market in the capital.

“It’s been great to work with you on so many successful initiatives despite challenging years during Covid and Brexit.

“The Market is not only an iconic hub for 175 wholesale traders, serving British institutions including Claridge’s and top Michelin restaurants, but also a site for community-driven programmes like Waste Not Want Not and your partnerships with local schools,” she said.

“It is a joy to see the Covent Garden Market continue to flourish and your great success is a testament to your innovative, collaborative and passionate management of this historic brand.”
