Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with flowers sourced from New Covent Garden Market

Celebrate The Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth with flowers sourced from New Covent Garden Market, the UK’s biggest flower wholesale market

Whatever you’re doing to celebrate the Jubilee, make sure you bring some colour and vibrancy to the occasion with red, white and blue British blooms from your local florist.

We’re almost at the start of the peak British Flower season and celebrity event florist Simon Lycett, who buys his flowers at New Covent Garden Market, says there are already plenty of brilliant blooms around. “If you’re at home or having a party, what better way to fly the flag than to buy a bunch of beautiful British flowers?” asked Simon.

For those of you who aren’t sure what to look out for to make up your flag of flowers, Simon has a few red, white and blue tips:

• For the red, find some picturesque peonies, sensational red sweet peas or classical red roses

• For the white, there’s delectable ammi (cow parsley), white scabious or Nigella, white delphiniums (a favourite of Prince Charles) and if you can find it, fantastic Feverfew and Cosmos

• For the blue, look out for gorgeous cornflower, stunning scabious or delicate Nigella

“There’ll be plenty out there to choose from at your local florist,” said Simon. “I buy my flowers and foliage at New Covent Garden Market, in south London – which is the largest wholesale flower market in the UK and a unique location that offers an incredible range of flowers, plants, foliage and sundries. The expertise and experience of the Wholesalers is second-to-none – you just can’t get that level of knowledge and insight from buying online.”

The wholesalers at New Covent Garden Market are all geared up for the celebrations and preparing for British Flowers Week, which runs this year from June 12-19. We hope everyone has a wonderful time and we wish Her Majesty a very happy Platinum Jubilee.
