New Covent Garden Market (NCGM) was proud to have four finalists at the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) Fresh Awards on Friday September 26th.
Held at Park Lane’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel and hosted by greenrocer/chef/TV presenter Chris Bavin, the night is dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the fresh produce, cut flower and plant industries' and was billed as ‘an unforgettable evening of glamour, recognition and celebration’, attended by several hundred of the great and the good of the fresh produce industry. Although none of the NCGM firms were winners on the night, it was nonetheless a major achievement have four businesses nominated as finalists amongst a competitive field of candidates.

Aaron Burton, Sales and Procurement Manager at Premier Foods Wholesale, says he was ‘super excited and a bit nervous’ - to be a finalist in the Climate Champion of the Year category. “We’ve worked on developing close working relationships with all our partners and we hope to lead the way and set a high standard with a sustainable impact throughout the supply chain,” says Aaron. “This season we’re focusing on long-term grower partnerships, joint sustainability projects, green logistics and secured purchase volumes.”
Damian Waloch and Magda Waloch from Ilo Bloom at the FPC Fresh Awards
For Ilo Bloom’s owner Damian Waloch, placing as a finalist in the Wholesale Floral/Plant Supplier of the Year category was a tremendous achievement for a business that’s only been based at NCGM since the end of 2024. “Ilo Bloom being selected as a finalist is the icing on top of the cake for us and caps off a whirlwind year,” says Damian, adding: “We’re a new and exciting start-up business utilising the knowledge I’ve gained over many years working within NCGM.” Damian has already expanded his market space by 30 per cent during his first successful year of trading, increasing footfall, with more room to display products and different areas for each variety of plant so customers can quickly find what they’re looking for.
“Congratulations to all of the finalists, we’re all proud of you and, of course, congratulations to all of the winners,” says Tommy Leighton, NCGM Press Officer. “This is a great industry that does wonderful things for our nation, and we should celebrate all of our achievements.”
