Fruit and Vegetable Market Report for May 2023

Traders are gearing up for a special day - the coronation of King Charles III - which brings big orders and closed roads to navigate.

Wild aspragus

Asparagus is still a key line, along with peas and broad beans.

Berries are another - with English strawberries now underway. Wild strawberries, pineberries and Tulameen raspberries also in season. UK outdoor rhubarb is also in its prime.

Other UK highlights include Jersey Royals, Cornish new potatoes, purple sprouting and salad crops.

It's the start of stone fruit season: peaches; nectarines; cherries; and apricots. Right now, it's still a bit early but quality and prices will rapidly improve.

Garlic is a good call. There's wild garlic and wet or 'new' garlic.
