Fruit and Veg in Season for October 2026

Fruit and Vegetable Market Report for October 2026

It's a warm start to October - after a record-breaking summer season, marked with heatwaves and periods of drought.

UK apples are full season. In the orchards, Cox and Jazz varieties are being picked right now and join russets, Gala and other early varieties. UK pears start a little later, with Comice still to come.

European citrus is in first gear - you'll find bergamot, Miyagawa clementines (pictured below), Verdello lemons and more. The fruit starts the season green; orange leafy clementines along soon.

Bursa black figs (pictured below) are mid season.

It's the start of persimmons, a.k.a. kaki or Sharon fruit - grown in Southern Europe.

October is a good month for pomegranates, too, which will now be strong into Christmas.  Italian kiwi fruit also recommended.

Chestnuts are looking gorgeous - just watch out for those spikes. Walnuts also in season.

Autumn is when roots take pride of place, such as Jerusalem artichokes, parsley root, chervil root and celeriac.

It's a great month for wild mushrooms, such as Cep (pictured) and Girolle.
