The Market was delighted to host His Excellency Diego Paulsen, the recently appointed Chilean Ambassador to the UK, for a tour of the Market on Thursday July 23rd. We was also joined by Nicolás Poblete, the head of ProChile in the UK, and Counsellor, Mr. Diego Araya, from the Chilean Embassy.
Chilean fruit has long been an important part of the traders’ product mix here at New Covent Garden Market and the Ambassador talked with Wanda Golwag OBE, Chair of Covent Garden Market Authority, about the myriad opportunities available at this Market for growers and exporters from his country.
"The Ambassador hails from Temuco, in southern Chile, and had a very good knowledge of both the fruit and vegetable sector and the extensive flower industry that exists in that region of the country, at the tip of Latin America," Wanda said. "He would very much like to see a greater presence for his country's fruit at NCGM and was impressed by our flower market; hopefully we’ll also see some of his local flowers finding their way to the south bank of the River Thames some time soon!"
