New Covent Garden Flower Market brought festive cheer to a Chelsea church and primary school by sponsoring a carol concert alongside a donation of two 12ft Christmas trees and a huge 10ft garland.
Flower Market businesses Bloomfield Wholesale Florist Ltd and Porters Foliage supplied the trees and garland respectively, as part of New Covent Garden Market’s sponsorship of St Mary’s Cadogan Church’s annual Charity Christmas Carol concert, held on Wednesday 6 December.
The concert and reception raised a staggering £16,000 to go towards critical church maintenance and to charities such as the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The society provides support and comfort to those in need within the local community.
One tree dominates the reception of St Mary’s Catholic Church, in Cadogan Street, Chelsea, along with the garland over the Church’s entrance. “The tree welcomed visitors to our Carol Concert,” says Father Shaun Middleton, St Mary’s parish priest (pictured above). “We were delighted with the generosity and support from New Covent Garden Market and I’d like to thank everyone involved.”

The second tree takes pride of place in ‘The Heart of the School’ room in St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School (which has an ‘Outstanding’ rating from school inspectors Ofsted). Head of School Mr James Stacey said: “We’ve all been delighted by these beautiful trees especially the children who love them. A huge thank you to everyone at New Covent Garden Flower Market for their generosity.”
The sponsorship and donations are part of Covent Garden Market Authority's community outreach, working with local charities and organisations.
