Two businesses at New Covent Garden Flower Market have generously donated plants to support a charity-run local senior citizens retirement home.
Plant wholesalers Quality Plants and Evergreens donated several trays of hydrangeas and geraniums to help populate a garden at the St Peter's Residence Home in South Lambeth (pictured below), to the delight of resident Margaret Roome.

“I’d like to thank Craig and Dean at Quality Plants and John and Paul at Evergreens, who were so generous in giving us several trays of plants,” says Margaret. At almost 92 years of age, Margaret still enjoys helping the gardener at St Peter’s Residence manage the three-acre site. “The donated plants were beautiful hydrangeas and geraniums and we are so thrilled with them,” says Margaret. “I also bought some lavender and marigold plants from the Market, all of which have transformed our garden.”

After visiting Nine Elms with a colleague and explaining how the St Peter's Residence needed help with their communal garden, Margaret said the traders were happy to support their cause. “A lot of joy has been given to so many people thanks to the donation so we’d like to thank everyone at the Flower Market. Words cannot express how grateful we are.”

St Peter's Residence Home is run by charity The Little Sisters of the Poor, founded by Jeanne Jugan in 1851. The charity has been based on its current site on Meadow Road since 1884. Today, the Little Sisters of the Poor run homes for the elderly across five continents, giving poor people the care they need no matter their circumstances.
