Publication Scheme

Introduction

Covent Garden Market Authority ('the Authority') is a statutory corporation, established in 1961 and is responsible to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. It has a Board of seven persons (including Chairman) appointed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and one appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport. The Authority's duty is to provide facilities for a wholesale horticultural market at Nine Elms, London, SW8 whilst ensuring that its revenues are sufficient at least to break even taking one year with another. The Authority's governing statutes are comprised in four Acts of Parliament, the Covent Garden Market Acts 1961, 1966, 1969 and 1977.

Exempt Information

The Authority considers information in the following classes to be exempt information by virtue of section 24 of the FOIA, in that it relates to information of a commercially sensitive or confidential nature:

  • Details of the terms of individual tenancy agreements, individual tenants' financial standing, or the Authority's dealings with individual tenant.
  • Details of the terms of contracts for the supply of goods and services to the Authority
  • Any information that has been provided to the Authority in confidence.
  • Personal and employment details of individual members of staff.
  • Details of security procedures and emergency contingency plans the disclosure of which could compromise security.
  • Details of confidential or commercially sensitive discussions and decisions taken at Board or other levels, the disclosure of which could compromise the Authority's position in respect of dealings with outside parties or organisations.
