Market donates nearly 100 tonnes of food to City Harvest in three months

City Harvest has produced an impact report for April 1st 2025 to July 22nd 2025, which illustrates the huge value of the work the charity is doing with fruit and veg tenants at New Covent Garden Market.

In just three and a half months, tenants provided 99.1 tonnes of edible food to City Harvest's rescue operation team, based in the railway arches, and that equates to 235,973 meals being delivered to charities feeding communities across London.

The other significant impact of this work is that rescuing that volume of food for human consumption has prevented 88.7 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions - it also reduces the volume and associated cost of waste recovery and disposal in the market and therefore has a positive impact on the market community.

We may be just a small part of City Harvest's overall impact, but the numbers behind what the community here can achieve for people who desperately need nutritious food are nevertheless quite incredible.
